GlobeNet introduces the G-Net Link, a new product that provides enhanced connectivity to New York, Miami & Caracas, delivering conversion, switching, hubbing and grooming services over an International Private Line. Nov 2006 GlobeNet announces an SDH capacity network upgrade, adding an additional 40 Gigs on the network. June 2003 Brasil Telecom acquires the GlobeNet network from 360americas. Nov 2002 Brasil Telecom confirms its interest in acquiring the GlobeNet system. Oct 2001 360americas releases an Offering Memorandum to sell the GlobeNet system. June 2001 360networks files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. March 2001 Alcatel completes the "Atlantica-1" network at a cost exceeding US $1Billion. The 360americas GlobeNet system begins operation, linking the USA, Bermuda, Brazil and Venezuela. Dec. 2000: TBI sells the BUS-1 system to its 360americas parent for incorporation into the GlobeNet system June 2000 Worldwide Fiber acquires (TBI) and GlobeNet Communications for approximately US $1 Billion. Worldwide Fiber changes its name to 360networks and establishes 360americas to manage the GlobeNet system. June 1999 GlobeNet and Alcatel finalize a supply contract to build the GlobeNet submarine fiber optic system. 1998 TBI's owners establish the GlobeNet group of companies to build a private submarine fiber cable linking North and South America. Nov 1997 BUS-1 cable linking Bermuda and USA is completed. TBI moves its voice services from satellite to the BUS-1 cable. April 1997 TBI launches voice services from Bermuda via satellite. Jan 1997 The Government of Bermuda issues a license to TeleBermuda International (TBI), permitting it to become Bermuda's second international carrier. |
