June 28th 2007 Brasil Telecom GlobeNet and IT International Telecom announce the completion of a cable reburial project securing GlobeNet's New Jersey-to-Bermuda section of its dual-ring fiber optic network. This section of the cable network runs along the Continental Shelf, ranging from 20 to 600 meters in depth, in an area known for a significant amount of commercial fishing activity. In order to ensure continued network security, GlobeNet and its wet cable maintenance provider IT Telecom reburied this fiber optic cable segment, to ensure the subsea cable is protected from anchors and trawling, which are common reasons for underwater cable faults. June 13th 2007 In response to record market demand, Brasil Telecom GlobeNet, who owns and operates the lowest latency submarine fiber-optic cable system serving the Americas, announces today that 2006 was the second year in a row the company has doubled its on-net capacity sales. Furthermore, the company predicts this growth will continue into 2007 due to growing customer demand for international network access. To date, GlobeNet's Brazilian and Venezuelan customers are requiring more high-bandwidth transport to major IP providers over a low-latency, highly reliable network. Read more (PDF). May 17th 2007 Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has signed a contract with Brasil Telecom GlobeNet, who owns and operates GlobeNet - the lowest latency submarine network serving the Americas - to upgrade the existing 22,000 km system linking the United States with Latin America. A private ceremony was held in Baltimore, MD, at SubOptic 2007, in the presence of representatives of Brasil Telecom GlobeNet and Alcatel-Lucent. Read more (PDF). May 1st 2007 Comsat International, a regional provider of telecommunications services throughout Latin America, has selected Brasil Telecom GlobeNet, who owns and operates the lowest latency submarine fiber-optic cable system, to provide Carrier Ethernet services between their network Points of Presence (PoPs) in Caracas, Venezuela and Miami, Florida. March 9th 2006 telx, the owner and operator of two of North America's premier core interconnection facilities, announces that Brasil Telecom of America, Inc./ GlobeNet, an international carrier's carrier linking North and South America, has selected telx as its New York international gateway.
